California Summer Camps - Shaffer's High Sierra Summer Camps

"The staff is highly trained and the activities are well-planned." - Leigha Tracey (parent), Vacaville, CA

Mountain Boarding

Mountain boarding is just one of many activities campers enjoy at Shaffer's High Sierra Summer Camps.

What is Mountain Boarding?

Mountain boarding is a sport that has grown considerably over the last 5 or 6 years. You'll use a mountain board, which is sort of a cross between a snow board and a skateboard. It is about three and a half feet long (1 meter) with 9" rubber tires and a hand brake. It's made to ride over terrain much too rough for a skateboard. Though you turn similar to a skateboard, the feel of carving turns is more like a snow board.

Skills Development.

You'll start out with a clinic on how to ride, turn, and brake. You'll first learn the basics around the Camp on gently sloping roads and trails. Once you get the hang of it, you'll be able to conquer more challenging trails such as "Ninja." There is also an old logging road that runs all the way to the ridge above Camp. After being dropped off by our shuttle, you'll have some scenic views as you descend about 1,200 feet (400 meters) back to Camp.
