California Summer Camps - Shaffer's High Sierra Summer Camps

"We think Shaffer's strikes a good balance between a "country club" camp and a wilderness camp. We think the size is large enough to make new friends, but small enough to get included in activities they might be reluctant to try. All you need to know about how much fun your kids had is the hugfest and tears as the campers are leaving." - Gary Lambert (parent), Lafayette, CA

Mountain Boarding

Mountain boarding is just one of many activities campers enjoy at Shaffer's High Sierra Summer Camps.

What is Mountain Boarding?

Mountain boarding is a sport that has grown considerably over the last 5 or 6 years. You'll use a mountain board, which is sort of a cross between a snow board and a skateboard. It is about three and a half feet long (1 meter) with 9" rubber tires and a hand brake. It's made to ride over terrain much too rough for a skateboard. Though you turn similar to a skateboard, the feel of carving turns is more like a snow board.

Skills Development.

You'll start out with a clinic on how to ride, turn, and brake. You'll first learn the basics around the Camp on gently sloping roads and trails. Once you get the hang of it, you'll be able to conquer more challenging trails such as "Ninja" and perhaps get some air!

Quote of the Day:

"Make the most of yourself, for that is all there is of you." – Ralph Waldo Emerson
