Preparing the first-time camper.
The American Camping Association has some terrific articles on helping to make a first-time camping experience a success. Please don't get the impression that all or even most first-time campers have a difficult time at camp. In our experience, the vast, vast majority do just great! We provide these links just to help ease your mind if you're the worrying type.

This crossroads hamlet is just 5 miles down the road from Camp at the entrance to the Lakes Basin Recreation Area. Consider:Sierra City.
This terrific gem straight out of the Gold Rush days is just 10 miles down the road. Consider:Downieville.
This town is a must-see, situated at the confluence of the North Yuba and Downie Rivers. It's another idealic Gold Rush Town, about 30 to 40 minutes from camp, but the drive along the North Yuba River is some of the prettiest country you'll ever see. Consider:Lakes Basin.
The Lakes Basin Recreation Area is, well, a wonder. Where do you think residents of Lake Tahoe go when they want to get away? Find out. Consider:Things for Mom and Dad to see and do in the area when dropping off or picking up their campers.
